The Mountaineer Christian Ashram is part of the United Christian Ashram movement. Christian Ashrams seek to help all people deepen their experience of the dynamic reality of God in daily living.
The word “ashram” – meaning “apart from work” or “retreat” – is a word that comes from Sanskrit. Following a personal retreat experience in India, missionary E. Stanley Jones recognized the significance and value of a time for alternating discipline and rest, seeking spiritual health and renewal. Returning to the United States, Dr. Jones adapted this ancient retreat approach to be centered on Christian teaching and ecumenical community.
The Ashram movement is a non-denominational spiritual retreat that helps Christian live their lives and live the claim, “Jesus is Lord!”
Update on the 2020 Mountaineer Christian Ashram
June 2, 2020
I don’t have to tell you how disruptive the COVID-19 pandemic has been. We all know of so many people who have been negatively affected, be it from getting the virus, losing their job, and the stress it has put us all under.
Additionally, I have the unfortunate task of informing you that the 2020 Mountaineer Christian Ashram has been officially cancelled. The Board of Twelve had an online meeting, and after prayer and discussion, made the difficult decision, based on the safety of all. We know how difficult it will be to miss the experience of the Kingdom of God together in the mountains of West Virginia.
However, I just received word that there will be a virtual Ashram for people to be part of. It’s being held June 28 – July 3, 2020. Tom Albin will serve as the evangelist and Steve Rankin will be the Bible Teacher. There will be programming for children and for youth. Go to www.refreshrestorerenew2020.org for more information.
The 2021 Mountaineer Christian Ashram will be July 29-August 1 at Parchment Valley.
Myra and I pray God’s blessing upon you, that you and your family will remain healthy, and that the assurance of our faith – especially in these difficult times – will remain certain and convinced that “nothing all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:39)
Jesus is Lord!
